Permission requesting email

This is an email I sent to the artist of our song Ratboy, requesting permission to use his song Sign On as the song for our Music video production. I have sent the email and I hope to receive a reply allowing us to use his song as it is being used for non profit purposes , therefore I cannot see why the artist would have a problem with us using the video.

Here is an example of the law of copyright referring to the use of songs In anything other than the original music video.

Sound is important in a music video, with the technology of today and the availability of music and other forms of audio on the Internet, it is very easy to find and use music. However, it is  easy to infringe on somebody else's copyright rights. At all opportunities you should try to create your own audio to go with your own production work.

Although this law states that it is not right to use somebody else's own audio productions. We have requested permission from the artist himself via the email above. Therefore if the artist reply's to this email and allows us to use their song to go with our music video product, we are not breaching any copyright laws.

Music Video Regulation

Banned Music Videos
1. Smack My Bitch up - The prodigy
The video focuses on a night out in London where drugs, alcohol and excessive violence are prevalent through the entire video. The video won two MTV awards. In 2002 MTV voted it the most controversial music video.

2. Low- Foo Fighters - Jack Black was involved in this video and it shows him and Dave Grohl partying in a hotel room. The pair then proceed to dress up un ladies clothes, it then ends with black throwing up some sort of black substance.
3. Blurred Lines - Robin Thicke - This video was released in two different versions the normal version and the unrated version. The unrated version was the one which caused the most controversy. In the video it shows the girls in the video walking around in skin coloured underwear and it doesn't leave a lot to the imagination. It was removed from YouTube a week after it was released but then it was put back in place a few months afterwards.
Some music videos that were banned a while ago such as Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Relax , I don't believe would be banned in current times as the video was centred around homophobia which was not widely accepted in the time of its release , in fact it was banned from being played on the radio , yet it made it to number one. This shows that controversy makes people want the music video even more , however what was considered controversial twenty or so years ago would not be viewed in the same way now due to changing views and beliefs within society.

In essence there isn't actually any music video regulation, there are simply warnings put on videos , such as the parental advisory, explicit content sticker , first seen on the album N.W.A - Straight outta Compton. There are also restrictions in place such as on YouTube where you have to sign in to your account to watch certain videos as a way of proving you are 18 years old. However there are problems with this as both of these are easily avoided, for example somebody could just create an account on YouTube and lie about their age. The parental advisory sticker actually made people want to buy albums more so soon after it was first seen most record labels began putting them on all of their albums to increase sales.

One Page Pitch

One Page Pitch

This is our groups one page pitch, unfortunately the footage of our group members answering the questions was lost, so instead we have placed an image of each group member that flashes when that person is talking, despite this we still get our points across, enjoy.

Album cover practice

This work was produced by Brantley however we all incorporated our own ideas into the design. The cover itself is supposed to symbolise the two different ways a persons life can go. On one side of the cover a dirty wall is shown on this side we will have all Me, Sam and Joe dressed in scruffy looking clothes to represent a sort of poorer side of life symbolising somebody's life if they decided to sign on the dole. The other side of the picture shows a clean wall and will have us all dressed formally showing a binary opposite of the way somebody's life could go if they worked hard and got a job.

Music video director - Case study

David Wilson- David Wilsons career in the music video industry began in his widely viewed animated and colourful music videos for Japanese pop stars. He has later combined live action and his fantastic animation skills to create symbolic and unforgettable cartoonish music videos for the likes of Royal Blood in their 'out of the black' music video. Throughout this entire video it encapsulates the audience in a medium of suspense , the video switches from scene to scene with a lot of different genres crossing over throughout , this makes his music videos not only interesting and unique to watch but also entices the audience.

However David's experience doesn't just stop with music video , he also works within the advertising industry creating commercials. Some artists and band he has worked with : Artic monkeys, David guetta, Lady Gaga and Royal blood. He also gained a Grammy nomination for his Arcade fire video 'we exist'.

He has won a number of awards : best director  UK music video awards 2014
