Evaluation: Question 3 continued

Question 5: We asked the audience what the best aspects of our video were. We were not sure what sort of answers we would receive back from this question. the options for the audience to choose from were; locations, camera shots, editing, narrative, humour, lip syncing or alignment of visuals to the beat. surprisingly one of the most popular answers was the lip syncing. This is an area that we thought we had let ourselves down as some of it was slightly out of time, this was reflected in the feedback from our classmates. This leads me to believe that because the other members of our class had been given the same assignment they recognised certain things such as the lip syncing more than the public who filled out our survey. We believe this to be a positive insight as we not only have a fair and open view from the public but our classmates have given us feedback that is based primarily on the technical aspects of our product.

Question 6: This question asked; What were the worst aspects of the video? and the answer options given were the same options as the previous question. We were expecting an increase in the number of people answering lip syncing, although the most popular previous answer  to the positives of our video was also lip syncing. Therefore we were relatively confused when this answer came back the same, again we believe it is because our classmates have a better technical understanding of the process used to create our product and therefore look more closely into aspects such as lip syncing.

Question 7: In this question we asked what issue does our video represent? the answer options were; Money issues, Authority issues, Youth issues, Political issues and Job deficiency. We predicted that youth issues would be the least popular option as most of the consumers will be aged between 16-20 and will most likely not want to 'put themselves down' so to speak, we were correct in predicting this as this was one of the least popular options along with political issues. We believe this was at the lower end of the list as this age range do not typically show a large interest in politics, even though some of them may be of the legal age to vote. Our highest voted answer was money issues, this can relate to all age groups and therefore people who took the survey online and our classmates picked this option. It is also shown as a clear message throughout the entire song.

Evaluation Question 3

Evaluation Question 3

We requested our audience feedback from other members of our media group and through social media. We asked for feedback from our other class members as we believed this would give a good view of where we could improve and what they thought was good about our final product. Furthermore our classmates had been set the same assignment and could therefore appreciate what is difficult when producing the final product. This enabled them to identify parts of our product where we had gone 'above and beyond' and could appreciate the amount of effort we had put in, on the other hand this would not have given us an impartial view as they are our classmates and would be supportive and not as blunt as we may well have liked.

As we believed an impartial view would be difficult to receive from members of our class each member of our group shared our final music video on social media pages: Facebook and Instagram and requested people give both positive and negative feedback. We were looking forward to receiving some constructive criticism as this would enable us to improve and produce the best product that fully reflected our abilities.

One of the main things reflected through our feedback from classmates was the framing problems during the final lip syncing scene, unfortunately we had cropped the tops of some members of the groups heads, when we began to look back at this we realised how unprofessional and inconsistent this made the video look. This is a shot that demonstrates the framing problems we had although it was only one of the members of the band that got the top part of their head cropped we are still not happy with how this looks and how it effects the overall impact of the video, we plan to rectify this by re-filming this scene in particular. We will make sure we maintain consistent continuity throughout the re-filming by making sure we use exactly the same placement at the same location and Joe wears exactly the same outfit down to the smallest detail.

We created an audience survey using the online website called survey monkey, we did this as we didn't believe we had a wide enough range of views from different people. We aimed for completely impartial views from people we didn't know and therefore posted a survey and a link to our music video on this website to get the viewpoint of complete strangers. Here is the link to our survey: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/5JZ69GF.

Question 1: The results we received from the survey were both surprising and exactly what we were expecting which gives a good range of views. For the first question we asked : What age group do you think this video is aimed at? We believed as a product it was best to aim the video at 16-20 year olds as this age group is most likely to face the problems mentioned in the video. We believed people any younger than this would not quite understand some aspects of the video, such as the whole idea of 'signing on' this is talking about the dole system. We didn't think many children under the age of 16 would have been exposed to this yet.
The survey suggested the same the majority of people who took part in our survey said they thought the video was aimed at 16-20 year olds which meant we have portrayed the age group accurately through the video and other products.

Question 2: In this question we asked what genre do you think the video is, we aimed to make the video a primarily indie genre and we hope we portrayed the genre strongly through the video to give a true representation of the artist and his intentions. We were delighted to discover that again the majority of people agreed with us and thought the video was of an indie genre. This taught us that we were effective in demonstrating the genre through the video.

Question 3: This question was slightly different as we asked for the audiences opinion on what they believed the overall feel of the video was, we would be happy with a few different answers to this question based on our editing and filming techniques and what we were trying to portray. We hoped that the audience would choose either the: happy/carefree option, the contradictory/mixed option or the honest/true option. This is because we intended to do all three of these options. We hoped we would create an honest and true representation of life for the age group of 16-20 year olds and of life on benefits. On the other hand we also wanted to cause contradiction and mixed views as this is one of the aims of some indie genre bands and artists and we wanted to give both sides of the argument so we didn't misrepresent either side of the argument concerning receiving benefits. Furthermore we hoped to create a happy and carefree representation as we believed as a group that music is intended as an escape to everyday life and we wanted it to be cheerful to put the viewer/listener in a positive mood. We feel like we achieved this as it was very nearly a completely equal split between all 3 options, however we saw a majority selecting the happy/carefree option. We were very happy with this result as this is exactly what we were aiming for and we feel we have achieved this based on the results of the survey.

Question 4: The 4th question asked: Was there a moral to the story? (if any)
The options we gave to the audience were: life is hard, easy to make wrong decisions, folly of youth, never give up, succeeding is the only way or no moral. I myself hoped the majority of our audience would select is never give up as although the video doesn't portray life on benefits as a negative thing and I don't believe it is, although some people may want to improve and do better for themselves which is a view I also share. I hope people chose this option as I didn't the video to be oppressive or forceful towards the audience when concerning their life choices.
